Are false promises starting to become reality?

For the last 2 yrs Obama has talked about his comprehensive plan for creation of 6 million new jobs. Today I wake up to news that Obama has announced a plan to create 2.5 million jobs by end of 2011. It seems to me that he forgot about 3.5 million somewhere? I would appreciate some assistance to help understand his plan Are false promises starting to become reality?
LOL, I just saw the exact same thing. I read my morning paper, had my coffee, then decided to get on the computer. Here's the first headline I saw...

Obama outlines rebuilding plans to create 2.5M jobs by 2011

I am massively confused here... he's the one chanting ';change'; and ';yes we can'; to the masses, but he can't deliver 2.5 million jobs until 2011? Are you kidding me? It's going to take TWO YEARS of his presidency to create that many jobs? LMAO!

Not to mention, I too remember his many lofty promises of 6 million new jobs created. In fact, I can remember him spouting off that crap during many of his debate speeches and speeches in general.. and I'm pretty sure if we go back and listen to his lengthy speech on television - the 30 minutes he paid for with money donated by terrorists - you'll hear him talk about how he's going to create that many jobs... and he didn't say it would take a couple of years. He acted like it would be pretty darn immediate.

';False promises'; are all that Barack Obama really gave America when he spoke. Here's what Barack Obama really should have said...

';The only CHANGE you will be seeing with my presidency is a black president for the first time. YES WE CAN have an all democratic government and no more Bush!';

That's all he really wanted, and that's all he got. The promises he made to get into the White House were just that... to get him into the White House. Well... to the people that voted to elect him... you wanted him, you got him... warts and all!

Note: wow! Look at all the democrats scrambling to support him. The one major theme I see between all of them is ';he's not in office yet';. What does that have to do with anything? This question was about why did he promise 6 million jobs created, but comes out saying he'll only help to create 2.5 million jobs? He has always talked about this extensive plan of his to create more than 6 million jobs. In fact, he said it could be done almost immediately if they were to do what he said in his ';outline';. LOL... okay, he set forth an outline today and it only creates 2.5 million jobs. And don't even bother spouting off anymore lines like, ';well he said this before we went into recession';. Oh, give me a break. We were heading into recession for the last 6 months! Are false promises starting to become reality?
Dont you think he should be sworn in first?

And . . . . . no president can ever put all thier promises into action, all they can do is try, it is NOT up to them, we have a three branch system of government and the president is only one part of that. they need congress and the court.

A presidential candidate can promise what they want to do, not what they will be able to do.

And . . . . until the banking industry self-destructed in October, jobs were a lot easier to create, the economy and people's trust were at a much higher level.

That is just reality.

Top economists, (NOT Obama's team) are saying the earliest anyone will be able to turn this economic tran wreck around is mid 2010.

Doenst matter who is in the whitehouse, it is going to take time, simple fact of life.
All presidential candidates have false promises.

He is a human being and only one person.

it is impossible for change to happen rapidly like that.

he was elected like 3 week or 2-1/2 weeks ago and you people are already thinking that change could happen so quick,he is officially in the white house in january,so relax and have faith in him don't start criticizing him so fast.

and 2.5 is a good promise,3.5 is just a false promise that is kind of hard to accomplished so early (2011) 3 years from now.

Just have faith in him.
Obama supporters only hear more jobs, he'll still avoid them turning on him if by 2011 we're down another 2.5 million jobs because he'll say MORE JOBS and they'll support him again. He's a genius because he knows how most americans can follow empty rhetoric and hollow promises, if people had actually done some research on who they were voting for, obama wouldn't be the next president. CHECK OUT THE ZOGBY POLL if you want proof of how smart Obama supporters are.
I don't understand the problem with that. 2.5 million jobs is a good thing.

What do you mean he forgot about 3.5 million somewhere?

This is but one idea, doesn't mean he won't have other ideas.

Contrary to some beliefs, he is not going to be a miracle worker, he is human and can only do so much - AND 2.5 millions jobs is a good start.

BTW - I did not vote for him - but your question simply does not make sense.
The 2.5 million is related to the stimulus package he is advocating, to jump start the country from the recession. See link below. Call that playing defense.

The 6 million that he campaigned on -- before the recession hit -- is the expected result of his actual policy plans, investing in infrastructure and alternative energy, etc. Call that playing offense.

Frankly, it would be good of people to understand these important distinctions before disparaging our president-elect.
Expectations were lowered the minute the last sheeple fell into line and cast it's vote. Obama's been back-peddling on his campaign promises ever since. Of course, no politician can uphold all the promises they give to get votes, however, Obama's ';changes'; will set a new bar for the depths a politician will stoop to get elected.

to steve j - did you ';support the office and not the man'; for the past 8 years?...thought not.
Alleged plans don't equal results.

Saying something doesn't mean something is getting done.

Scaling down his goals does not change his campaign trail words.

Nothing he could do would outweigh his contempt for our (and NOT his -- he is an illegal alien) Constitution and the laws of OUR (not his) land.

I remember a comprehensive plan in the 1940s that opened 6 million new jobs . . .
He hasn't taken office yet. He can't do diddly squat.

I don't think he can live up to his campaign promises myself, but I don't think that any candidate really can. Therefore, I don't get too bent out of shape about it all. I just look at the results, and the results are at least a couple of years away.

If things are going great at that time, then I'll applaud him for it. If not, then I'll be screaming for his political head. Same as always, no matter who's in office.
Were you really naive enough to think that he could create 6 million new jobs? If you were then the jokes on you. anyone knows it can't be done overnight but it's better than our current President losing over 6 million jobs don't think?

At least Obama's trying to do something about it.
We've watched the economy go from bad to worse with every passing day. Bush and his republican cronies have trashed our country from inside and out and he's going to ride off into the sunset and let someone else attempt to clean up the mess. This is a vastly different country that the one we had when the campaign started. If you love your country maybe you should put your partisan feelings aside and be a real patriot, support the office, not the man
I never believed anything stated by Obama, anyway. And with the economy the way it is, even less will be done now than would have been, anyway. It is a big mess right now, with no answers that seem to be working. I trust NONE of our leaders, on either side. Period.
I bet you expected him to create the 6m jobs on Nov 5th 2008 too.

PUHLEEZZEEEE!!!!!!!!

People like you deserve GWB - he lost 1.5m jobs in this year 2008 alone

At least Obama is not sitting on his a@@ like GWB stealing our money.

He's TRYING even while he is not yet president
Reminder Obama hasn't done anything yet..

.Nothing! Nada !

Hasn't created ONE JOB!

It's all talk........and your giving him credit for saving the country.....

Must be something in the water ?

Be Afraid 1984
to understand Obama's 'plan(s)' all you have to do is listen to his campaign mantra HOPE %26amp; CHANGE.

translation: i will CHANGE my promises %26amp; HOPE you don't notice.
1. president cant help create all jobs

2. he not a president yet you already bashing him

3. you got no life
GREAT ANSWER FRED K!!!

You're one of the one's that probably don't realize the Dems have been the majority the past 2 years huh? But keep blaming Bush if it makes you feel better!

Way to talk outta your a$$
Obama is not president yet. No president can/will keep 100% of the promises that he made as candidate. Most people realize this.
Let me Help you Hes not in Office Yet How Hard is That for you To Understand Gee even that 2.5 is better than what bush has created in the last 2 years oh thats right we lost that many
As a Hillary supporter having to settle for Obama, all I can say is, ';I told you so';. Sorry I could see through Obama on day one.
obama will brake a lot of his promises he got in on all the lies he told most of his promises could not happen any way
hell he ran on the promise of change

How can you change Washington when you fill your admin with the same people that have been there for years?
You expect politicians to keep their promises. Did you just fall off the boat?
I always have hated to say, ';told ya so.';
just wait im sure a few more CHANGES will be made lol
Here's the problem. Your a politician, you sincerely want to help people as well as making promises just to get elected. You promise you'll 'create' 6 million jobs; or you promise you'll end the war in a few months; or you promise whatever. Then you either get in office, or in Obama's case, start the transition. You get a lot of information you did not have before, even as a Senator. You learn in today's economy there are not 6 million jobs to be made. There might not be a quick way out of Iraq that works.

So while I don't like it when politicians make stupid promises to get elected and should check their facts before they start claiming things, there are things Presidents know that they might not know ahead of time, especially if the incumbent President is with the other party.

Also, President-Elect Obama and the other candidates were at it for about 2 years. I don't think the economy was good most of that time, but it was not what it was the last couple of months. So he might have started saying that at a time when the economy was not quite as bad as it is now. Still no excuse for out and out made up promises by any candidate of any party to be elected, if that was the case.

RULE 1 of Politics: Never take any campaign promise with more than a 'grain of salt'. It's like all the commercials for cars, etc. They can not all be the best, have the best gas mileage, have the best features. Remember, political campaigns are sales campaigns, period. Buyer beware!
at least hes doing something
