Is it possible for something to be both true and false at the same time?

Or is this impossible? Is it possible for something to be both true and false at the same time?
Yes, it is quite possible. IN fact ANY system will have such a statement.

For an example see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuum_h鈥?/a>Is it possible for something to be both true and false at the same time?
From the top of my head,

Is the sky blue, true or false?

All females must give birth?

Free speech?

I'll let you decide the answers. :)
I think that something is ';i';,i am both true and false.

True for the world, but false for i.
No, it's not possible. But then, how, as we know to be true from quantum mechanics, can electromagnetic energy be both a wave and a particle (the properties of each are mutually exclusive)?
Think of a colour-blind person who claims that sky is green. This statement is true according to him but false according to anyone else.
the bible
I believe so, people just have different ways of doing things, different opinions and while something maybe absolutely true in someones eyes it might be false in anothers
I say this questian is true/false

Yes because for one, there is more than one oppinion on matters,

And two the world is not black and white, it is in color,

So why should the worlds answers be in black and white
yes, but only part true and part false. It cant be fully true and fully false.
It is not impossible... is there GOD..some would argue true some would argue false.....

When we don't know the answer to certain things .it has two answers
Yes and no...

No, it's a logical fallacy, an impossibility. If something is true, for instance, by it's nature it can not be false or it is not true.
the word false. It is false, but the word means false so it tis also true.
If a glass of water is half full, it is also half empty.
Is true that I am married but is false that I am in a living marriage to my husband

Is is true that my husband thinks he is my children's father: It is false that there could be any biological link between my kids and my husband

It's true that my mother in law acts like the devil it false if anyone thinks she can't be the devil

Yep I would say something can be true and false at the same time
Yeah man, everything is true and false and meaningless. Try the Principia Discordia. Hail Eris!
That's a very good question but I think it's possible
As the two things are exact opposites, it would be impossible to be both true and false at the same time.
some time some truse can be false afterwards, some false can be true afterwards
Simultaneously, it's impossible. After the matter, it is possible. A true or false statement can hold its form as true or false at that moment. When it is proven to hold true from false or false from true, then the impossible has now become...possible as factually proven to hold its supported grounds and replace the unsupported statement.
I think it's possible for the simple fact that anything is possible. Plus, sometimes some things can have some truth to them yet also be false.
a large concept with many parts yes, but for any one thing they are mutually exclusive
Some obvious things are simply true, or false. But there are many gray areas where true or false is no more than a matter of opinion.
Everyone's perception is different. Perception is reality to each. So, yes.
It is impossible. But, the truth may be very complex and difficult to explain in plain language.
A simple example:

';This statement is false.';

If the statement is true, then it is necessarily false, if it is false, then it is necessarily true. True and false at the same time.
Something could be true to some and false to others.

'There are no hard distinctions between what is real and what is unreal, nor between what is true and what is false. A thing is not necessarily either true or false; it can be both true and false.' --Harold Pinter

Here's his lecture discussing this:

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0512/S0鈥?/a>
That is known as a zen koan

';I am a liar';.

That is both true and false at the same time
Something can indeed be false and true simultaneously. Such a thing is called a paradox, and, usually, in the study of logic, one assumes that it means we have made some error in how we are asking the question.
NO, but the Demorats try it all of the time.
geaorge w. bush is the president..of africa
No.

If it is false it can't be true.

If it is true it can't be false.

The only thing I can think of that can be true and false at the same time is a poorly written True/false question that is so vague the teacher would have to accept either one as the correct answer. Either way, you'll get it right.
