What do you think about the phrase: ';What you don't believe in - cannot hurt you.'; True or false?

There's this saying that the human mind is responsible for a lot of things - hence the part about what you believe will come true, or what you don't believe in - cannot hurt you.

What do you think about this? What's your opinion? What do you think about the phrase: ';What you don't believe in - cannot hurt you.'; True or false?
YOU NEED TO LEARN PASCAL'S WAGER:

Let us assess the two cases: if you win you win everything, if you lose you lose nothing.

Blaise Pascal, Pensées, 1670

“Yes, but you must wager. There is no choice, you are already committed. Which will you choose then? Let us see: since a choice must be made, let us see which offers you the least interest. You have two things to lose: the true and the good; and two things to stake: your reason and your will; and, your knowledge and your happiness. Your nature has two

things to avoid: error and wretchedness. Since you must necessarily choose, your reason is no more affronted by choosing one rather than the other. That is one point cleared up.

“But your happiness? Let us weigh up the gain and the loss involved in calling heads that God exists. Let us assess the two cases: if you win you win everything, if you lose you lose nothing. Do not hesitate then; wager that he does exist.”

The reason they put blinders on carriage horses is so they will follow the directions of the driver and not worry about what they can't see. We are given discernment so that we can look everything over and then decide for ourselves what is valid and what is not. We need to make educated choices.
wow this question made me think.....lol

um....... first i thought isnt the phrase ''What you don't KNOW cannot hurt you?''

then i started thinking about your ACTUAL question and i think that its not true bcoz say you dont believe in ghosts or spirits or watever but then they actually are real they can hurt you....

so its not about if you belive in them its just about if they are actually real and if they can actually hurt you
false. just because i don't believe that i will be hurt if i put my hand in the fire doesn't make it true.
I agree that the human mind is responsible for a lot of things, but I don't think that just because you don't believe in something it can't hurt you.
just me is pretty much to the point.
Assume that you do not believe in Satan the Devil. Then imagine that the Devil exists, whether you believe in the Devil or not. Theoretically speaking, Satan could still hurt you, even if you did not believe in him. Brute facts are not dependent on our individual or collective beliefs. They subsist whether we believe in them or not. If the existence of God or Satan is a brute fact, then what you do not believe in may hurt you (if you do not believe in said brute facts).
I believe the phrase is ';What you don't know, can't hurt you.'; sometimes that is true, too. If you find out about something, you may miss you never knew about it. If you have an inquiring mind like mine, you will want to know answers, though. Well, I would anyway.
True.

Only beliefs that I hold true in my personal world view may happen to me.

Nothing happens to me that I don't create.

I create my own reality.

Never a victim.

Never an accident.

Stand and be true
What you don't believe CAN hurt you. You don't make your reality 100%. You make your attitude, I believe, but to make a statement that what u don't believe in can't hurt you is to say ignorance is bliss.

Its a fact that I don't believe I will get hit by a drunk driver, but whose to say I won't and who is to say that cuz I didn't, its not due to my belief or rejection of the idea? So I grant you that we may not know the answer to this question since we don't know the causes of events or things not happening.

People get killed by others because they trust. They didn't believe in the other's evil capabilities.

I hear some people have become believers i Ouji boards AFTER playing with these supposedly harmless things that they didn't believe had any real consequences.

Do supposedly possessed people (if u believe in that) know they are possessed or are they being taken over without their knowledge by something they don't consciously believe in?
let's study it's logic...

if i don't believe i will die, then it won't hurt me to know that i did die? but of course it wont hurt me because i'm dead...LOL

if i don't believe in god, how could it hurt me? (unless of course, you caught the ire of piss-of christians and they beat you up)

it swings both ways... if i don't believe in the supernatural, how could it hurt me. i don't believe in ghosts haunting people, how would they hurt me. that's purely realistic thought. and ego talk.

just this, whether you believe it or not... accept it's existence. other people believes it exists... let them be. that way, your respect for people holds true, whichever their belief is. but to insist their way and have you follow them against your will, politely decline their effort. remain neutral but open to their views. that way, your friendship stays...
I think that's called DENIAL

Just because you don't believe it doesn't make it so.

Its like the statement perception is reality. That is crazy If you perceive that your husband is faithful doesn't mean he is.

if you perceive someone is a good person and you believe in them whole heartily can they hurt you???yes.

If you don't believe in God and then you die and find out you were wrong can that hurt you? yes
That's is a stupid phrase.

If I don't believe in gravity, I can be just as dead jumping off a bridge
Just because an individual chooses to remain ignorant does not in any way shelter them from the universal forces. Prayer and Darkness to name two. If we believe our protection and understand enough to be aware we can choose to resist or accept energies.Love is the highest power, it transcends all. Dark energies are shut out by love. So Dark energies can attack an unaware person with no belief . People who consciously intend something on an unbeliever or supernatural forces acting on them can impact that person. How they interpret it is a different story.
I think that your beliefs about ladders, black cats, etc can affect your life. I've also heard that curses from VooDoo, witchcraft, etc, can't affect you unless you buy into it. I had a black cat %26amp; she was great. Cats can't help what color they're born any more than people can.
I knoe of someone who was put in a spell by a witch. He did not believe in witchcraft at all and the spell did not affect him at all.
False. Just because someone don't believe in electricity doesn't mean it won't hurt them if touch a live wire.
mabe. but what you Dont Know About can.
True.

This is part of a poem talking about the same thing.

';When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,

pray that the road is long,

full of adventure, full of knowledge.

The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,

the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them:

You will never find such as these on your path,

if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine

emotion touches your spirit and your body.

The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,

the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter,

if you do not carry them within your soul,

if your soul does not set them up before you.';
sometimes you can be hurt by what you dont believe...
I second what ';just me'; just said!!

Good point!
